Hey again, readers!
I wanted to send a quick exciting update: at the urging of many of my loved ones, mentors, and cheerleaders, I have decided to enable a paid option for Good Queer News! Rest assured: the weekly emails you receive from me now are here to stay for everyone. It is a firmly held value of mine that money should never be a financial barrier for education, news updates, community, or joy.
Why, you ask? I’ll tell you!
As many of you here have hopefully had the chance to see firsthand, there's very little I won't do for free to support the people around me. Speaking events, support calls for families with newly out trans kids, mentorship for people who want to get into advocacy work or public speaking. Of the many hours of work I put in each week, I’d estimate more than half of those are devoted to supporting the people around me in ways that will never bring in a dollar of income. To be clear, I'm not complaining. The support I am able to give to others, and the relationships and love that I am able to build with so many amazing humans, is the cornerstone of my purpose in this world.
I want to continue to follow this purpose for as long as I can and leave this world far better than I found it, and your choice to support my work through a subscription will help me sustain myself and my family. This additional source of income will give me the ability to continue spending as much time as I can providing free resources to as many folks as possible.
I'm still working out the specifics of what will be included with a subscription, but I'm imagining some combination of book recommendations, strategies for finding joy, interviews with joyful queer leaders, and more!
Perhaps you've already subscribed (which, by the way, THANK YOU!!) or you aren't looking to get any more emails right now. If that's the case, consider a gift subscription for someone in your life who could use a little joy!
If you are purchasing for more than one person, there's a discount as well.
Subscription not in the budget right now? That's okay!
I'm still so, so glad you're here, and there are a few other things you can do that make a huge difference for me and my work. A few suggestions:
1. Talk to your local librarian and favorite bookstore about carrying my book, "My Child is Trans, Now What?" or leave a review on Goodreads or Amazon!
2. Invite me in for a speech or workshop at your organization, school, religious congregation, support group, etc. I am always looking for new places to spread inclusion and allyship, and I have no budget minimum.
3. Share this newsletter with a friend, or even on your social media! Spreading the word about my work helps me to reach more people and spread more joy, and I am extremely grateful for those of you who help make this possible.
In short, subscription or not, I'm glad you're all here. Wherever the next few years take us, know that I'll be here, leading the way with joy and hope.
With love and gratitude,
Ben
Wonderful news! Happy to support you! Best of luck!
